Redmi 12C Review: This is Redmi's best budget phone

Redmi 12C is the latest smartphone in India. This mobile has entered the low-budget segment. Redmi 12C's price starts at Rs 8,999 with features and specifications like 5GB virtual RAM, 50MP dual cameras, and a 5,000mAh battery. We also used this Redmi phone for a few days and came to know that if this mobile is bought at a low price of 9000 then how much would be right?  We have written a Redmi 12C review on the experience of our users and if you also want to get a new smartphone in the same price range, then the phone review written further can be useful for you.

Redmi 12C Design

The look of the Redmi 12C will not let you realize that this phone is worth less than 9 thousand. The back panel of the phone is made of a striped design which gives it a different look. The advantage of these strips is that they maintain the grip and the phone does not slip. Due to this design, there is no sweat or fingerprint on the back panel.

A dual camera setup has been given on the top right side of the rear panel.  The fingerprint sensor is present near this setup. We found the placement of this sensor to be perfect. The volume buttons and fingerprint sensor work in perfect harmony when the phone is held in the palm. A 3.5mm jack has been given on the top panel of the phone and a micro USB and speaker is present at the bottom.

Redmi 12C Display

This smartphone is made on a 20.6: 9 aspect ratio which supports a 6.71-inch Waterdrop Notch display. The screen feels big. So big that if you run the phone with one hand, then you will either be able to scroll up only from the bottom or scroll down only from the top!

It is difficult to access the top edge and bottom edge of the screen simultaneously. To see on the notification panel, you have to change your phone hold position. I do not consider it correct because by doing so there is a risk of the phone falling.

Redmi 12C has an HD + display with 1650 × 720-pixel resolution, which supports 500nits brightness and 1500: 1 contrast ratio. Sharp and vibrant colors are available on the display.  The brightness of the phone is quite correct and the brightness of the objects on the display comes to the fore.

The picture quality is good according to HD + but due to the large screen size, the pixels in this resolution feel slightly torn and blurred. It goes on in gaming or photos but this shortcoming comes to the fore while watching videos on YouTube.

Redmi 12C Gaming Experience

The real processing power of a phone is known only when playing games on it.  In Redmi 12C too, we downloaded many types of games, and the heaviest game was car racing, whose size was close to 300MB.  While playing this game, we did not feel any hang or lag issues.  Yes, the frame rate was slow at some places, but the overall experience was better than average considering the phone budget.

While playing the Redmi 12C game, there was no hang but the hitting problem came to the fore.  During gaming, the part near the camera on the rear panel became hot, which remained hot almost throughout the game.  Apart from this, the initial experience of using the phone was fine and there was not much problem during processing.

Let us know that this Redmi mobile has been launched on Android 12 which works in conjunction with MIUI 13.  For processing, it has been given a MediaTek Helio G85 octa-core processor built on 12-nanometer fabrications, which works at 2.0GHz clock speed.

The Redmi 12C smartphone is equipped with 5 GB virtual RAM technology.  Due to this technology, the 6 GB internal RAM present in the phone can be increased to 11 GB RAM.  Users can use 2 GB, 3 GB, or a full 5 GB of virtual RAM as per their requirement.

Redmi 12C Camera Quality

Talking about the specifications first, the Redmi 12C smartphone supports a 50-megapixel dual rear camera with F/1.8 aperture and a 5-megapixel front camera with F/2.2 aperture for selfies and video calling.  Features like Portrait Mode, Night Mode, HDR, and Time Lapse are also available with the back camera.  At the same time, Google lens support has also been provided with the camera.

Talking about the camera result, of course, the primary rear sensor has been given in Redmi 12C of 50 megapixels but the photos taken from the back camera are mediocre. We would not call them bad, but with the word 50MP, the expectations of the users also become high and this Redmi phone fails to live up to those expectations completely.

The selfie camera of the phone is also average. It has a beautifying filter that does not work on the face shape but while softening the face, it reduces the blemishes. The quality of the front camera is correct according to the 5-megapixel sensor. It will not be called less.

Redmi 12c Battery

Redmi 12C smartphone has a 5,000 mAh battery. Once fully charged, it can easily last a day. Even after playing the game for 2-3 hours, the time from morning to evening passes easily. The company has given 10W fast charging in this phone, which helps in charging the battery.

This Redmi phone supports micro USB. It can be called disappointing. While the Indian government is planning to make USB Type-C a universal port for every device, bringing the Redmi 12C with a micro USB port takes the brand back.

Where phone ahead

Redmi 12C has two SIM slots and a memory card slot, in which a card up to 1TB can be installed.
● Connectivity options like Bluetooth v5.0 and Wi-Fi 5G are also available on the phone.
● Redmi 12C also has a 3.5mm audio jack.
● This Redmi mobile supports MIUI Dialer.
● The phone is IP52 rated which makes it splashproof.

Where phone behind

The Redmi 12C supports a single speaker which is loud but the music quality is a bit lackluster.

Conclusion

The look of Redmi 12C is right and there are not many complaints about the display as well. In terms of camera, the Redmi 12C has not gone ahead as much as it should have been, but it can be termed as average. The processing of the phone has proved to be very good according to its segment, while the battery backup of this mobile is also good.  Due to the brand image of Redmi and the price of Redmi 12C, this phone can prove to be a good option for people buying a new low-budget smartphone.
